Squalane: Commonly Known as Nature's Facelift

Squalane: Commonly Known as Nature's Facelift

Squalane has become one of the big superstars in anti-aging skin care and for great reasons.

Squalane is NOT Squalene

First, we need to clear up the confusion and a common misunderstanding. Squalane is plant, mostly olive, based and squalene is found in the livers of sharks and is less stable than squalane. Plant based, i.e. olive, squalane starts out as squalene and is hydrogenated to become squalane. The hydrogenation process is like a built-in preservative protecting the squalane from oxidization making it very stable. Again, the thing to look for in your skin care is plant based squalane, we prefer olive, with an “A” not an “E”.

Why is Squalane Nicknamed a “Facelift in a Bottle”?

  • Squalane Naturally Occurs in Your Body

Even though the body produces squalane the production starts to slow down in your 20’s and it slows drastically after age 30. It is believed that the absence of squalane is responsible for the many visible signs of aging, including the tendency of your skin to become easily damaged, thinner, and dehydrated all leading to the visual signs of premature aging. It should be replaced daily via your skin care because it will help to replenish the natural levels lost through the normal aging process, to help restore a more youthful appearance with healthy looking skin.

  • Effective Anti-Aging Properties

Squalane hydrates and softens your skin and is an effective anti-aging ingredient. It spreads easily over your skin and penetrates deeply where it helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It is also a great carrier oil meaning that it will help with the absorption of other ingredients, i.e. rosehip oil, marula oil, making any formulation with adequate amounts of squalane work better.

  • Effective for Chapped and Dry Skin

Squalane absorbs so quickly that it often works to clear up difficult skin problems such as dry patches and plays an important role in the repair of damaged skin. It has even been used to successfully treat cracked lips.

  • It Protects Your Skin

It is an antioxidant that protects your skin from damage caused by free radicals and it has properties that will help protect your skin from the sun.

  • It is Great for All Skin Types

Squalane helps balance the moisture in your skin and it helps regulate your own oil production making this great for all skin types.
